Prime day and Black Friday are the days to shop for Blink. I ended up with a lot of sync modules simply because it was cheaper to buy the camera with sync module when they were on sale, than to buy just an add on camera. The modules can be spread out across the property. You can buy and add more sync modules to a larger installation. Thanks to all the Reddit feedback on my report, your comments are very helpful. I will be updating this post with more details covering the best feature Blink has to offer and failure report, listing all my systems crashes, response times along with a do’s and don’t list that will be helpful for new users.
I was looking at getting one of these systems but unfortunately I went cheap. But you pay more but you will get much better coverage that you can count on. They also come with a large storage system and remote backup. Most of these systems now offer a smartphone app that will allow you remote access to each camera. You will need to pay a lot more per camera but get a cat5 PoE ( powered over Ethernet) 4K camera system with a standalone controller along with dedicated display. If your new to using Wi-Fi connected devices and need to setup a number of cameras I DO NOT RECOMMEND buying Blink cameras. Even with a experienced user like myself I need to connect Blink tech support to get them working. Setting all of your devices can be difficult. If your using Wi-Fi access points the camera / sync module need to be content to the nearest access point. The sync module takes instructions from your phone app and sends that information up to the camera.

The software requires that each camera needs a good solid signal as with the sync module. The WiFi cameras the Sync 2 module and you home Wi-Fi. Overall it’s not that bad, BUT if you have a large house and property getting the system to work correctly can be very different. Lastly we need to talk about the Blink system. That said I use a Blink outdoor camera in my carport and covered front porch. I highly do not recommend the Blink outdoor cameras for driveway monitoring. With the LED floodlights working your only going to see peoples or cars 10 or 15 feet away. It’s so bad most users like myself end up buying the optional Blink floodlights. Nighttime recording using the IR illumination is terrible. Motion detection is better if the car, person or object is crossing in front of the camera. Example, if a car was driving up to your house it will only start to record when the car is almost at the house. If and when they detect something it’s only 10 or 15 feet away. They appear to have problems picking up people or cars coming directly towards the camera. The USB port will also have silicone sealant applied for waterproofing.īlink outdoor cameras need to be installed in a sheltered area away for direct rain or direct sunlight. The problem with this fix is having to find a long USB cable and local wall plug to use.
Blink pro cameria upgrade#
You can upgrade your outdoor camera to A/C powered by plugging in a USB cable to a standard phone power adapter. This needs to be fixed my Blink in future software updates. If your not a home to replace your batteries your left with a unmonitored home. Not being able to see what life you have left on your battery’s is almost a deal killer for most people. It only has 2 settings “ OK or REPLACE “ it doesn’t give a percentage of battery power left. One major problem with the Blink outdoor cameras is the on-board battery monitor. I have one outdoor camera for my backyard and so far it’s still working. If the camera is mounted in a high traffic area like your front door the battery will not last past 2 or 3 months from my experience. They say you can get up to 2 years off the battery but after after 3 months I had to replace the batteries in 2 of my outdoor cameras. The Blink outdoor camera works about the same as the Mini but is battery powered. (USB flash drive) or just use the Sync 2 storage. You can use Blink’s cloud storage and local storage one the Sync 2 model.
The app provides access to the camera for live viewing and recording. It’s powered off A/C ( not battery powered) this camera along with the Sync 2 module is a low cost easy to setup system. The Blink Mini is a low cost indoor camera.
